Designing your Kitchen

Sometimes the modern world can just be a little too much!!

Especially when it comes to kitchens, cooking and food.

... of course yes, we want to keep lots of fantastic time saving gadgets, from the simple toaster to dishwashers, juicers, blenders and so on...

... however, sometimes the old ways are good ways too, preparing food properly, storing food, taking time to make things rather than just take them out of the packet and heat them up!

There are some great old recipes which I've actually collated on another website, I've tried out a great many myself and like them, they could bew worth checking out for ideas and inspiration.

Food for the Kitchen

Every great meal starts off as produce at the market, as I'm based in London, I'm more familiar with what's available here ... there are farmers markets run all over town, with small farmers selling their own fruit, vegetables and meat.

There are two main market operators in London, I've a preference for London Farmer's Markets, partly because the one in Angel is nearby to my home, but also they are run by a jolly nice lady called Cheryl, whom I went on a date with once!!

There is a national association of Farmers Markets, which is an organisation set up to help local farmers, get good food into the community and so on.

Of course if you don't want to cook at all, but still like quality food, then check out Top Table, who are the best restaurant site around - they also have loads of very good value promotions. ... their website editor is the rather tasty Michelle Smith.

I've had two flats with very narrow kitchens, not dis-similiar to the one shown here, they can be very taxing on the old ingenuity in order to get set up and running properly, or at least efficiently.

There is a National Kitchen Association, well of course there is, there is a society or group or conglomerate for everything else so why not in the world of Kitchens.

... now I'm not one to plug anyone, least of all one of those hight street monoliths, however, MFI Kitchens, do produce lots of good units, I did my last kitchen with their stuff - I'm not ashamed to say.

So now I've mentioned them it is only fair to mention Magnet Kitchens, the other big player in the kitchen game, you know the one with feel good factor - everyone gets 50% off, or should it be feel bad factor, as you always bump into some smart guy or gal who says they got 60/70% discount, or whatever.

We also have another kitchen website Traditional Kitchen which has inspirational pics of old style kitchens in the hope of stiring up the gret matter a little bit and helping you come up with some creative kitchen ideas.

... as well as that, while on the food and Kitchen theme we have Dining Room Design because lets face it most of us have either our main reception room (how posh am I) or our kitchen doubling up as the dining room.

You know I think you can be blinded with plans and computer screen simulations of what it will all look like .... and we all buy the fantasy, even though we know deep down that it will never quite come out like the one in the brochure!

... that's ok though, as long as you have enough cupboards, some open racks - well I like them - get all the plumbing sorted properly and a nice brand spanking new cooker in place ... all will work out well.

oh when I said cooker there, perhaps I meant if you get a nice new cook for the kitchen then perfect meals will soon ensue :)

Kitchen

So the Kitchen is pretty much the most important room in the house. It's where all our food is stored and prepared - and food after all is the source of life - well one way or another I think you can say it is.

Oh yes, and just for fun ... we did this one afternoon - The Hostess Trolley as a tribute to a kind of golden age.

I hope your Kitchen Plans go well.
